Helaman 1 - I am preparing to install a package of bees in the hive to the right. The can in the bee package box is sugar water to keep the bees alive awhile in transport. There is a queen in there also hanging inside a plastic cage. The bees all came together from different tribes to form one happy family. The installation was successful and the hive is doing well,  Spring 2014

Bruce's Bear Attacks - Usually, when I get a bear in an outyard, I move the bees to my house then find another site for them.  This time the outyard in Rescue was so perfect for bees (and apparently bears) that I decided to keep it and put into practice what I teach in the beginning beekeeping class.  If you have power to your site, the controller is cheaper, so the whole setup can be done for about $200 but because I needed solar power, it was $300.  Yes, it worked on this small bear, we got a picture without getting damaged again.

Cindy Holmes - Here's a photo of my setup. I got a Parmak Mag 12 UO (bought online) because it had the biggest zap for battery power. With a new big marine deep cycle battery it goes about a month between charges (wasn't even low yet). Works for me. Looks like Bruce has the peanut-butter-on-aluminum-foil-strip on the wire to assure Yogi gets zapped before blasting through the fence. I need a critter cam!

New Hive Design - I am experimenting with a new type of hive design, what do you think?

New Hive Design - Actually this is a new swarm that just took up the speaker as its new home. I am working on a solution to get them out with the least amount of fuss. Will keep you informed.

Speaker Bees 1 - Ok, I built a frame that allowed me to place the speaker horizontally on top of a hive. Once they become use to using the enterance on the hive I will place a one way inner board between the speaker and the hive and not allow the bees back into the speaker. So far they are populating the hive quite nicely. oh, notice the duct tape on the upper right corner. The speaker has a gap there and the bees where coming and going from the crack in the corner. Had to put a stop to that using the handy man's secret weapon. So far, So good!
